11/20: Basic Bible Doctrine

1. GOD - There is one, and only one, living and true God, the creator of all and supreme ruler of heaven and earth. This one God is extant in three persons, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Each equal in power but separate in position, these three make up the Godhead. Exodus 15:11; Psalms 19:1; 69:4-5; 83:18; 90:2 ; John 1:1; Acts 17:29; Romans 1:20

2. BIBLE - The Bible is the inspired, preserved word and words of God. It is complete, infallible and inerrant in the English language of the Authorized Version of 1611 also called the KJB (King Jesus Bible.) Daniel 10:21; John 2:22; 7:38; II Timothy 3:16; II Peter 1:19-21; 3:15-16; Acts 1:16; Hebrews 4:12

Under the name of Holy Bible, Holy Scripture, or the Word of God, are contained all the books of the Old and New Testaments, which are these:

THE OLD TESTAMENT: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges, Ruth, I Samuel, II Samuel, I Kings, II Kings, I Chronicles, II Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther, Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, The Song of Solomon, Isaiah, Jeremiah, The Lamentations of Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi

THE NEW TESTAMENT: Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, The Acts of the Apostles, Romans, I Corinthians, II Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, I Thessalonians, II Thessalonians, I Timothy, II Timothy, Titus, Philemon, Hebrews, Epistle of James, I Peter, II Peter, I John, II John, III John, Jude, The Revelation

All of which are given by the inspiration of God, as the Holy Ghost moved men to record the very words of God. Romans 15:4; II Peter 1:21

3. MAN - Man was created in the image and likeness of God, but in Adam’s sin the human race fell, obtained a sinful nature, and became alienated from God; and, that all men are sinners by birth and by choice, and of themselves, utterly unable to remedy their lost condition. Hence in need of a Saviour. Genesis 1:26-27; Romans 3:22-23; 5:12; 6:23; Ephesians 2:1-3; 4:17-19

4. SAVIOUR - Jesus Christ came to save men from the penalty of sin - death! He came as the Lamb of God to give himself as a sacrifice to pay our debt. He was born of a virgin, God incarnate, and died on a cross to take away the sins of the world through faith in His shed blood. Isaiah 7:14, 53; Matthew 1:18-25; Romans 3:25; Galatians 4:4-5

5. SALVATION - The salvation of sinners is wholly of grace, through the working of the Holy Spirit and the sacrifice of Christ on the cross. There is no other way to satisfy the law of God, which all men have broken. Only the blood of God, untainted by sin, could fulfill the law. Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 3:24, 25; 10:9-10; John 3:16; 10:18

6. REPENTANCE AND FAITH - Repentance and Faith are inseparable graces wrought in a soul by God the Holy Spirit; whereby, being deeply convicted of our guilt, danger and helplessness, and of the way of salvation in Christ, we turn to God with "a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart", confessing our condition and looking for mercy. At that time we receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Saviour, openly confessing Him as our only means of salvation. All of this is the work of God and it is marvelous in our eyes. Psalms 34:18, 51:1-7, 16-17; Isaiah 55:6-7; 66:2; Acts 2:37-38,;20:21; Mark 1:15; Luke 12:8, 18:13; Romans 10:9-13

7. CHURCH - The church is the body of Christ on this earth to fulfill the desires of the Lord here and now, He would have that none would perish. The church has been commissioned by the Lord to carry His gospel to this lost world, to preserve, protect and preach His word. The church will be the bride of Christ at His return to fulfill the desires of the Lord for eternity. I Corinthians 10:32, 15:9; Galatians 1:13; Ephesians 1:20-23; 3:21; 5:21-32; Colossians 1:18-24; Hebrews 12:23; Revelation 21:9; 22:17

LOCAL CHURCH – The Bible also teaches that believers should form themselves into local churches by covenant. To the end that they may fulfill the will of God as a corporate body in worship, prayer, fellowship, edification, and for the active proclamation of the Gospel. The care and leading of all New Testament churches should be the responsibility of a pastor duly called and ordained of God. There should be no outside influences on a local assembly such as a convention, synod, association or presbyters of other locales. Acts 13:1; 14:23; 20:17, 28; I Corinthians 16:19; Colossians 4:15-16; Philemon 1:2; James 5:14

8. RESURRECTION - In Christ we know and have this hope: that the redeemed of the Lord shall be resurrected to eternal glory in the presence of God, to ever be with Him. The souls of the lost shall be resurrected unto eternal damnation, punishment and separation from God. Matthew 22:31-32; John 5:28-29, 11:24; Acts 17:32; 23:6; Romans 6:5; 13:2; I Corinthians 15:12-22; II Timothy 2:18; Revelation 20:5-6

9. BAPTISM - Water baptism, by immersion, is the first of two ordinances of the New Testament Church. It is administered only for those who have made a profession of faith and is a picture of the new believer's union to Christ in His death burial and resurrection. It is a prerequisite to the privileges of a church membership and to the Lord’s supper.
Matthew 3:13-15; Acts 8:36-38; I Corinthians 1:14-18

10. THE LORD'S SUPPER - The second ordinance of the Church, is administered only to believers that have made a public profession of the new birth, by baptism. In keeping the Lord's table we show His death till He comes and we remember what he has done for us in presenting his body as our sacrifice for remission of sins. Luke 22:19-20; Hebrews 2:9; I Corinthians 10:21; 11:23-28

11. SECOND COMING - Christ Jesus will return one day for His redeemed and we shall meet Him in the air. After a period of tribulation on earth, Christ then begin to reign on this earth and that reign will be for 1000 years, until “all things are put under him”.
I Corinthians 15:24-27, 51-53; I Thessalonians 4:16-18; Revelation 20:4-7

12. SATAN - Once the covering cherubim he fell and drew after him a host of angels. He is now the prince of the power of the air, and the unholy god of this world.
Isaiah 14:12-15; Ezekiel 28:12-19; I Peter 5:8; I John 3:8

13. SEPARATION - Christians (followers of Christ) are a "peculiar people" who should be "zealous of good works" and endeavor to maintain a good testimony for our Saviour before the world. Christians should pray always to keep themselves "unspotted from the world." Romans 12:1-2; 2 Corinthians 6:17; Titus 2:14; James 1:27

14. CREATION - The Genesis account of creation is to be accepted literally as six 24-hour days and not allegorically. In Genesis chapter 1 we can find the creation of all things. "All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made." Genesis 1:1-31; Exodus 20:11; Acts 4:24; Colossians 1:16-17; John 1:1-3; Romans 1:20

15. CIVIL GOVERNMENT - Civil government is of appointed of God, for the interests and good order of human society. We are to pray for our elected officials, their appointees and all magistrates, as well as conscientiously honour and obey them. The exception only being of things opposed to the will of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is the only Lord of the conscience and the coming King of the kings of the earth. Exodus 18:21-22; II Samuel 23:3; Psalms 72:11; Daniel 3:17-18; Matthew 10:28; 22:21; 23:10; Acts 4:19-20; 23:5; Romans 13:7; Philippians 2:10-11; Titus 3:1; I Peter 2:17.
